Since it’s the new year here are some tips on making life a little easier for yourself.
On January 2nd I cleaned out my entire fridge and threw everything out that was expired, I felt so liberated and cleansed. Now every time I open my fridge I’m happy, not grossed out. My fiance bought me a new planner for this year, which I love!
1. Spend 10 minutes every night preparing for tomorrow.
Pack your lunch. Pick out your clothes. Have your keys and coffee mug ready to go for the morning. Morning you will thank yourself for those few extra minutes.
2. Change your sheets once a week.
Trust me on this, clean sheets are the greatest thing ever. Nothing beats crawling into a bed with clean sheets. I am so guilty of not changing my sheets enough, ew gross, I know. Walmart actually has some really nice inexpensive sheets, stock up on them!
3. Find a happy place.
Whether it be a park, a coffee shop, or the library. Finding a place other than home and work is nice, and will give you an escape from normal routine.
4. Make time every day to do something that makes you happy.
Sit down, make your favourite cup of tea or coffee and savour it. We’re usually rushing around, so take some time to sit down and rejuvenate your mind.
5. Exercise in the morning.
Even if this means just stretching or doing yoga for 15 minutes before heading out the door- bonus points if you live somewhere nice and can exercise outside. Most people find themselves too tired after work to exercise, getting up a little bit earlier to exercise will make you feel more refreshed.
6. Allocate yourself some time to do nothing at all- and not feel guilty about it.
If you find yourself constantly burnt out and never saying no to people then you need to take a day off. We get so caught up in saying yes to everything and taking on too much. Take some time for yourself to be lazy in your jammies and binge watch netflix.
7. Make your bed every morning. EVERY. MORNING.
Seriously, I’ve been making my bed a lot more lately and not only do I feel more like an adult (I’m 25) but also, I feel better crawling into a made bed at the end of the day. I’m not saying you need to make your bed with all the bells and whistles (IE: weird dust ruffle, 13 throw pillows, fitted sheet and flat sheet) but at least straighten out your duvet. Clean sheets + made bed = heaven on earth.
8. Put pen to paper.
Make yourself todo lists or start bullet journalling. This article explains how to start a bullet journal and what they are exactly. 9. Have a social media free day.
These days I spend wayyyy too much time on the internet (hello, welcome to blog life). I find myself spending too much time comparing my life to others. Social media is great, but can also take a toll on your mental state, maybe you didn’t get invited to something or maybe everyone you know is getting married and having kids. Log off and stay logged off all day. Your brain and self esteem will thank you for this.
10. Love yourself.
Leave yourself encouraging messages. Write yourself a lovely message on a post it note and leave it on your bathroom mirror for when you wake up. It will give you a great boost when you get up.
